Developing an advanced Digital Likeness platform using AI and DeepFake technologies to create photorealistic digital likenesses of actors, enhancing realism in the film industry while incorporating blockchain for copyright management. In this 8-week challenge, you will join a collaborative team of 50 AI engineers from all around the world.

The problem

The film industry is at the forefront of technological innovation, constantly seeking new ways to create more immersive and realistic cinematic experiences. A significant part of this evolution is the integration of digital characters into films. However, the current process of creating digital likenesses of actors is fraught with challenges. Traditional methods are not only time-consuming and costly but also often fall short in capturing the nuanced expressions and mannerisms that bring a character to life. This gap in digital realism limits the creative potential of filmmakers and affects the overall quality and authenticity of the cinematic experience.

The limitations in current digital likeness technologies hinder the film industry’s ability to produce content that truly resonates with audiences. The lack of realism in digital characters can break the suspension of disbelief, crucial for storytelling, and can lead to increased production costs and extended timelines. This not only impacts the financial viability of film projects but also constrains the creative expression of directors and actors.

There is a growing need for a solution that can overcome these challenges by providing a more efficient, cost-effective, and realistic method of creating digital likenesses. This project in collaboration with a media company working with major studios and streamers, aims to harness the potential of AI and DeepFake technologies to develop an advanced Digital Likeness platform. The goal is to create photorealistic digital likenesses of actors that accurately replicate their physical appearance, expressions, and mannerisms. Supported by blockchain technology for secure copyright management, this initiative seeks to set new standards in digital realism within the film industry, making high-quality digital likenesses more accessible and enhancing the overall cinematic experience.

The project goals

The ultimate objective of creation of the Digital Likeness platform project is to revolutionize the film industry by creating a cutting-edge platform that utilizes AI and DeepFake technologies for generating photorealistic digital likenesses of actors. This platform aims to replicate not only the physical appearance but also the unique mannerisms and expressions of actors, thereby enhancing the realism and quality of digital characters in films. Additionally, the integration of blockchain technology for copyright management is intended to ensure secure and efficient rights handling, further advancing the standards of digital realism and innovation in the film industry.

The main goals of this Challenge are:

  • Comprehensive Research on Advanced Technologies: Investigate the latest models and technologies in AI and DeepFake for digital likeness creation.
  • Data Collection and Processing: Acquire and process the necessary data, leveraging partner support and resources.
  • Development of Algorithms and Models: Create algorithms and models to generate photorealistic digital likenesses, encompassing both facial expressions and body movements.
  • Prototype Development: Construct a functional prototype of the Digital Likeness platform.
  • Testing and Refinement: Conduct rigorous testing and refinement of the prototype to ensure accuracy and realism.
  • Integration of Blockchain for Copyright Management: Implement blockchain technology to manage copyrights effectively.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Produce comprehensive documentation detailing the data, methodology, and results.
  • Final Demonstration: Showcase the final prototype and demonstrate its capabilities and applications in the film industry.

Requirements

Good English

A very good grasp in computer science and/or mathematics

Student, (aspiring) data scientist, (senior) ML engineer, data engineer, or domain expert (no need for AI expertise)

Programming experience with Python

Understanding of Machine Learning, and/or Deep Leaning
