Omdena Partners with the UK FCDO in Tanzania to Educate, Build and Deploy AI Solutions in Tanzania
February 23, 2023
Omdena is partnering with the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to upskill local AI engineers and help build and deploy an AI solution to monitor mangrove conservation in Tanzania Rufiji delta.
The cooperation between Omdena and the FCDO will enable an integrated AI ecosystem and players to focus on three main areas: providing awareness and education on AI, solving a key societal challenge through building innovative AI solutions and products, and deploying the solutions in the real world. The duration of the partnership is expected to be six months long.
The awareness and education part will focus on upskilling the local talent pool by providing artificial intelligence and data science courses and opening three new local chapters in Tanzania, allowing local talent to work together and solve real-world AI problems. The new chapters will be in addition to the Omdena local chapter in Tanzania, which already has over 30 members.
This partnership will not only upskill hundreds of AI Engineers but also give opportunities to the local talent to work on exciting and pressing problems of society and ultimately get jobs in the sector. In addition, this partnership will help local entrepreneurs and startups develop their in-house AI capabilities.
“I am very enthusiastic about this partnership, given the focus of the FDCO in Tanzania to use AI ethically and for positive impact in the society while at the same time developing a large pool of talented AI engineers and entrepreneurs,” – says Rudradeb Mitra, CEO of Omdena.
