Omdena Partners with Asia Foundation in Nepal to Improve Media Representation of Women, Youth, and Marginalized Groups
June 13, 2023
Omdena is proud to announce its partnership with the Asia Foundation in Nepal on a project aimed at improving the availability of credible information and diverse narratives within media that better represent women, youth, and marginalized (WYM) issues and perspectives. This initiative is part of USAID CSM M&E’s efforts to advance representation practices in media.
The program will analyze mainstream media, social media, and potentially Nepali radio content using a quantitative methodology. The goal is to measure the average rating of diversity in media content and representation of WYM using the OIND 3.1 indicator. The project will focus on two provinces in Nepal: Madhesh Province and Lumbini Province spanning six months Omdena will utilize AI modeling techniques such as natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms to develop language models for Nepali, classify WYM-related media content, and rate media content based on diversity and reliable representation.
