Omdena Partners with Hanson Robotics and Global Artificial Intelligence Association to Build Compassion AI
June 6, 2022
Results from the research project for GAIA Compassion AI with the partnership of Omdena and Hanson Robotics would be tested on the most advanced human-like robot, Sophia.
“My goal is to create friend machines. Friendly genius machines. Machines with genius capabilities.”
As David Hanson, founder of Hanson Robotics and cofounder of GAIA puts it well in the above quote, we indeed need friendly machines on our quest to become a more compassion and inclusive planet. This is also expressed in GAIA’s Manifesto of Compassion AI.
We at Omdena are convinced that only through a truly collaborative and inclusive approach, we can achieve conscious, compassion, and thus friendly AI. Omdena’s collaborative AI development model of using global and diverse teams will be applied in this first-of-its-kind research project.
Collaboration, Compassion, and Consciousness in AI
Omdena´s founder Rudradeb Mitra recently supportively for GAIA’s mission wrote about the need for Collaboration, Compassion, and Consciousness (3 C’s) to build AI that uplifts humanity.
“If we want to survive and face future challenges of the world and from bad actors (and AI), we have to collaborate together with compassion and consciousness. Otherwise, we will make intelligent machines kill, fight and suppress each other. We can already see such AI algorithms suppressing the opinions of people who are different.”
Bringing the 3 C`s into AI in this project
In this project, we will leverage Omdena´s global community of AI engineers in more than 100 countries. A diverse team of 50 engineers will explore the current field of compassion AI as well as test and experiment with new approaches to implement the most promising algorithms. David Hanson will act as a mentor to the team with the team of GAIA.
The results of the work are to be made open for the global AI community to benefit and potentially write research papers.
Want to be part of this project? The project will be launched on 7th July 2022 and you can already apply.
The partners
Hanson Robotics
Hanson Robotics’ most advanced human-like robot, Sophia, is a unique combination of science, engineering, and artistry, Sophia is simultaneously a human-crafted science fiction character depicting the future of AI and robotics, and a platform for advanced robotics and AI research.
GAIA
GAIA is a platform for Open Innovation that uses Collective Creativity – that is, combining human creativity with the computing power of AI to solve global and local problems. GAIA is a combination of a multidisciplinary and international Think Tank working jointly with constellation of world known experts (Virtual Florence) and with collective knowledge networked in the Platform for Open Science (Invisible College) associating scientific institutes, research groups, and enthusiasts from various fields and countries.
