Enhancing the Quality of Available Maps in Palestine Using Deep Learning Model
This Omdena Local Chapter Challenge runs for 8 weeks and is a unique experience to try and grow your skills in a collaborative and safe environment with a diverse mix of people from all over the world.
You will work on solving a local problem, initiated by Palestine Chapter.
The problem
Maps are a crucial part of the everyday life of people. Not only do correct maps allow us to easily navigate routes and visit different places, but also to promote businesses, recommend doctors, connect communities, and maintain infrastructure.
Currently, Palestine lacks basic precise map applications. Google Maps are available in all the neighbouring countries but are not working correctly in Palestine showing nonexistent roads and giving wrong directions. This is probably due to the low quality of available satellite images.
An artificial intelligence (AI) solution has the potential to create significant value for the users of these maps, including businesses, governments, and individuals, by providing them with more accurate and up-to-date information.
The goals
In this project, the Omdena Palestine Chapter team aims to develop a Deep Learning model that will enhance the quality of available maps (e.g. Google maps) using GANs on available low-quality satellite images of the place, showing the actual roads and deleting nonexistent roads from the map.
