Omdena and its Covid19 AI project shown at NASDAQ billboard in Times Square
By Michael Burkhardt
Today on April 17th, 2020, 11 months after Omdena started, we woke up to humbling news.
Omdena and its Covid19 project are displayed on the Nasdaq billboard in Times Square in New York City. Taking into account the troubling times the world is currently in, we are deeply humbled and grateful that our effort is seen as a little contribution to solve this global crisis.
We are thanking Nasdaq and Norrsken Foundation for choosing Omdena and generously supporting our initiative. We would like to thank all the people who have helped us to reach where we are today. More than ever we are eager to build an inclusive environment where changemakers from around the world can collaborate to build solutions to real-world problems.
What Omdena is
Omdena is an innovation platform for building AI solutions to real-world problems through the power of bottom-up collaboration.
In our first 11 months (founded May 2019), our community has grown from zero to more than 900 collaborators from 79 countries. Through collaboration, we’ve completed 17 projects with organizations, ranging from detecting wildfires, to fighting sexual harassment, predicting climate change, and preventing gang and gun violence.

Our contribution to Covid19
Billions of people across the globe urged to stay home to halt coronavirus spread. What will that mean for the economically vulnerable? Are government policies taking into account the poorest and the most vulnerable in an effective manner?
To answer these questions, we started an Omdena project with 65 AI experts, data scientists, and domain experts from more than 20 countries. The teams apply AI and policy research for enabling governments to design data-driven policies to deal effectively with pandemics like the Coronavirus.
