Safecity is an award-winning platform that crowdsources personal stories of sexual harassment and abuse in public spaces. This data which might be anonymous gets aggregated as hot spots on a map indicating trends at a local level.
Until now Safecity has collected over 10,000 harassment stories from over 50 cities in India, Kenya, Cameroon, and Nepal.
“2 Years ago, our team at Safecity envisioned a tool that could combine Google maps with Safecity’s Report and Audit database to create an algorithm that can help any person in danger to find the safest and fastest route to their nearest safe place. I am proud to announce that a great milestone to this endeavor has been achieved by our 8 weeks collaborative effort with Omdena. Omdena is one of the world’s finest set of Data science enthusiasts working for Social good. We had reached out to some of the largest corporations to help us in this endeavor but it was the passion, empathy and sheer drive of the team at Omdena led by Angelo that led us to this great achievement.”
The community built heatmaps and save routes, which are currently being implemented in Safecity’s award-winning applications. Details can be found on our blog,
