Mapping Multi-Hazard Risk Areas and Identifying Optimal Response Routes

Local Chapter Gurugram, India Chapter

Coordinated byIndia ,

Status: Ongoing

Project background.

We can study the history of natural disasters in the area to gain insights into past events and develop strategies to address other potential problems as well, which will help us frame the project and devise a strategic approach.

As Gurugram is a highly industrial area, it is very susceptible to incidents of fire and crime. By mapping the risk areas, especially for fire and crime, we can better understand the vulnerabilities and develop targeted response strategies by integrating mapping techniques to identify the fastest routes for emergency response.

Also, Gurugram faces significant challenges with waterlogging during the rainy season. The inadequate drainage systems and rapid urbanization make the problem worse, leading to flooding and disruption of daily life (This is happening nowadays). We can develop effective strategies to mitigate these problems, including suggestions for improved drainage infrastructure and real-time monitoring systems, which also serve community awareness initiatives.

So, there is a lot to research and explore in Gurugram, and further research is crucial to fully understand and address the complex challenges.

The problem.

Gurugram is an industrial city with a lot of factories and industries, which puts it at a higher risk for events like fires and crime.

Gurugram also has trouble with waterlogging during heavy rain, which causes flooding and disrupts daily life. We can come up with ideas like better drainage and using technology to monitor the situation and keep people informed about what’s happening.

We can develop effective strategies to mitigate these problems, including the suggestion for improved drainage infrastructure and real-time monitoring systems, which also serve community awareness initiatives.

Project goals.

The project goals are:- Research study on the history of these types of events in Gurugram - Identify and map high-risk areas - Develop targeted response strategies - Further goals can be defined later on

Project plan.

  • Week 1

Conducting initial research on the history of these events in Gurugram and on relevant data sources.

  • Week 2

Data Collection and Analysis to identify high-risk areas

  • Week 4

Develop mapping techniques and algorithms to map the identified risk areas

  • Week 6

To research on developing a real-time monitoring system to track fire incidents in high-risk areas.
