Developing a Digital National ID System in the Philippines using AI Technology

Local Chapter Antipolo, Philippines Chapter

Coordinated by Philippines ,

Project background.

The Philippines has been working on implementing a national identification system for several years, with the aim of streamlining government services and reducing fraud. In 2018, the government passed the Philippine Identification System Act, which mandates the creation of a single national ID for all citizens and resident aliens in the country.

To achieve this goal, the government is exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to develop a system for generating and digitizing national IDs. The proposed system would use AI algorithms to verify the identity of individuals and prevent duplicate IDs, ensuring that the national ID database is accurate and reliable.

The implementation of a national ID system has been a contentious issue in the Philippines, with concerns about data privacy and potential misuse of personal information. However, proponents argue that a reliable and efficient identification system can improve access to government services and reduce corruption. The use of AI technology is seen as a way to address these concerns and ensure the system’s effectiveness.
