Omdena and the University of Ladakh start a partnership that will provide Artificial Intelligence education to the local students of the Ladakh region.

The University of Ladakh and Omdena are launching a 6-month certificate course. It will give students a unique opportunity to learn about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning while working on real-world problems. The certificate course will be conducted over six months, including four months of teaching and training and two months of a practical project.

The University of Ladakh will undertake activities to make the above goals possible. Among others, the university will assist with the organization of the Omdena Challenge and mobilize the necessary personnel and infrastructure of the institution to provide the best experience to students participating in activities created as a result of a partnership.

“The Omdena local chapter will organize real-world challenges. Such a collaborative venture with Omdena will boost the expertise of the University in modern technologies like ML and AI. The University’s Data Science and AI Lab (DSAIL) eventually wish to have ML and AI-based diploma courses of 10-12 months duration, with a special focus on Ladakh-specific problems, which will help willing students to go to industry or establish their own start-ups.”

– Dr. Mehboob Ali, Department of Computer Science and AI, University of Ladakh.

On the other hand, Omdena will launch the course on the basics of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for potential hackathon participants, provide additional learning materials and access to online platforms and explore new models of collaboration with local institutions and agencies through the Omdena School. Omdena will also work closely with the University of Ladakh in order to establish the local Omdena Chapter and organize a global Omdena Challenge.

“Partnership with the University of Ladakh aims to upskill the local community members by educating them with hands-on practical application of Data Science and Machine Learning skillsets on real-world problems. The professional course will train knowledgeable professionals in the area of Artificial intelligence who will be self-sufficient to address local community issues by applying ML and AI practices.”

– said Erum Afzal, Head of Omdena School.
